Georgia Medicaid Waivers for Family Caregivers: CCSP and SOURCE, Explained Simply

Seva Senior Services · August 20, 2026 · 3 min read

If you are already caring for an aging parent or loved one in Georgia, you may have heard the terms CCSP and SOURCE and wondered whether either one applies to your family. Here is the short version, without the state paperwork jargon.

What these programs are

CCSP (Community Care Services Program) and SOURCE (Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment) are two of Georgia's Medicaid waiver programs. Both exist to help older adults and people with disabilities receive care at home or in the community, as an alternative to a nursing facility. Structured Family Caregiving, offered under these waivers, is the piece that lets a family member, in many cases, become a paid, trained caregiver for the loved one they are already caring for.

Why there are two programs, not one

CCSP and SOURCE cover overlapping needs but are administered a little differently, and which one fits a given family often comes down to specifics: the region, the loved one's current care setting, and the type of support already in place. This is exactly the part families are not expected to sort out on their own. An intake team that works with both programs every day can tell fairly quickly which door applies.

What tends to surprise families

What we can and cannot promise

Eligibility for Georgia's Medicaid waiver programs is determined by the Georgia Department of Community Health and its designated agencies, not by any private agency, including us. No one can guarantee approval, a specific timeline, or a specific rate of pay before an assessment is complete. What a good intake process can promise is that you will not have to navigate the state alone.

If you want to find out where you stand

The fastest way to know whether CCSP, SOURCE, or another Georgia Medicaid pathway fits your family is a short conversation. See if you qualify to get paid to care for your loved one, or call us directly to talk it through.
